Thanks for all the heads up guys.
The fact that there seems to be different ways of doing things doesn't help. I'll report back in a couple of weeks on what happened at the airport. |

| I exited through Dammam two weeks ago, and exit visas are online now. My employer arranged it (and collected my Iqama) and I made it through Immigration with only my passport, no special paper or stamps. |

Thanks Heaton and ESLTeacher. That's what my employer has been telling me (they're still asking me to surrender my Iquama at the airport however).
Much confusion seems to be stemming from the fact that immigration apparently temporarily prevented people from leaving (back in Jan/Feb) who hadn't returned their Iquama's 30 days in advance. It seems as if they quickly gave up on the idea as a result of the widespread chaos it caused. It seems as if both ways are acceptable at the moment, hopefully nothing changes in the next few weeks as thousands of teachers try to leave on final exit visas. But who really knows what will happen in the kingdom. |
