|
|
I was last in China a couple of years ago. I applied for my job from the U.K. to get my Z-visa I had to get a rigorous, medical done in the U.K. Then I sent the results to China and the school applied for my work permit. That took nearly 2 months. Then I took the work permit and passport to apply for my Z-visa, which came quickly.
NOW I am told that Beijing is requiring teachers to get a criminal record check. (This is only necessary in Beijing, Guangzhou and a few big cities). Is this the case?
Before I went to Korea, I got a criminal record check through Disclosure Scotland. Should I do the same thing again if I am going to Beijing?
Sensible replies only. No silly wisecracks, no trolling please. |

Yes and Yes. Not sure what "Disclosure Scotland" is, but for the time being just get the cheapest, least time consuming CBC you can - they seem to be acceptable. |

You may be lucky here. Beijing had a very strenuous CBR requirement when the new visa regulations came out. And overall, the totality of the process there is harder. However, my visa guru Gary states which CNCC should suffice here.

It APPEARS they have lightened up recently unlike some municipalities like Qingdao.
Good luck!

Sensible answer:
Nobody on this board can give you a definite answer on this, even though the replies you will get are full of their experience and good intention. I'm sure you will know from your past experience in China that the rules and regulations differ greatly in the way they are applied by city and province.
The only REAL answer you will get is from the Embassy/Consulate where you are going to make your application. THEY will tell you what documentation THEY require. After all is said and done, THEY are the people who will issue your visa.
Good luck. |

Who requires the CBC? Is it the embassy when you apply for the Z visa, or the PSB when you apply for the RP? Genuine question, not intending to be snarky. |

This thread http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=104204&highlight=disclosure+scotland explains how to do it if you're already in China. If you're still in Korea I would guess it's the same procedure, just a different mailing address.
As to whether you need it, previous threads on this forum indicate that a lot of people are being asked for it. The only people who can tell you for sure are the people who will be supplying your letter of invitation etc. You might get lucky and not need it.[/url] |

Beijing No. XX High School

Full-time ESL teacher needed in our Chinese department which is a separate section of the school. ....................................... We need your scanned diploma, passport, ESL related certificates, teacher licenses, resume with detailed month and year employment history, letters of reference, and if you are not already in China on a valid FEC that can be transfered, we need a criminal records check which has a seal from your police department, then a notary from your state level secretary of state and that must all then be notarized by your nearest Chinese consulate. ..............................

I believe it is referring to the US where most states have a secretary of state or equivalent. If you are from another country it would be different, but would refer to some department of the executive of your region. |

You would have to inquire at the capital city of your province or state to get state notarization. For example, if I lived in New York State in the USA, I would got to the secretary of state in Albany, NY state.
It's jsst a raised stamp and/or something attached to each page with a non-removable grommet that states that all of your paperwork is bonafide.
I don't know why this cr*p is being re-instituted. China signed on to the Hague agreement in 2004 that does away with that BS. |

Shit, I'm really worried about this. I just sent in the local check a few months ago and the school said it was OK. Now I'm going to Beijing next week and hoping that they don't change their minds. I'm just transferring my foreign expert certificate, not coming in from another country, so maybe it will be easier? I sure hope so. |

If the school is okay with it, the province is probably okay. You've been in China long enough to proceed with confidence and to ask the right questions. so I think you'll do okay.
Good luck, Mr. B. |
