From my understanding, Asia is out for me due to my criminal history. I was caught with a stolen pistol and some other items when I was 17 and I got a paraphernalia charge when I was 20. I am 28 now.

Would South America still be a possibility? I just finished my BA and Spanish was my last class. I was hoping to perfect it by moving somewhere down there for a while. Maybe Peru or Mexico - since they seem to be among the least discriminating.

Yes, it is. For example, to get a work visa for Colombia, there was no criminal bg check needed.

You might want to ask this on the General Latin America board, or on the specific country boards for better response. The last I knew, Mexico did not require a CBC for a resident permit (and was still located in North America.) Smile I don't believe Peru does either, but apparently there are other visa issues; this is third-hand info, not personal experience, however.
