The parts where you wrap everything in insinuated insults kinda detracts from any of the anecdotal content you might have tried to hide it with. Sorry. Rolling Eyes

Yes, I was fairly on board with 5th's reply until the last two lines.

Fifth Column, your response started respectfully, and then you smugly implied that I never tried 1), 2), or 3) and for these reasons failed in my marriage. How would someone in a marry NOT try to keep their partner interested? Nobody intends to have their marriage end up in a train wreck assuming they entered into the union honestly.

Don't attempt to read between the lines in what I wrote to search for reasons how I failed to keep my marriage together and imply things about my "inadequacies" as a marriage partner.

That is something for another discussion, and not something I want to discuss with a stranger - you. Marriages break up for a variety of reasons - even when you are doing or trying to do everything right. That is my point, and my experience.

As it was general reflection on the topic of Japanese infidelity (which this whole discussion sidetracks away from), I was only philosophically reflecting.

Very well said, Timothy!

Even later in life, people do change quite a bit, particularly after kids enter the relationship dynamic.

At times, it can be quite a struggle to remember what I ever saw in my wife.

I remember reading an apropos quote somewhere (though I can't recall the author's name): "women marry men, expecting to change them. men marry women, expecting them never to change. both are disappointed"

Found it!

"Men marry women with the hope they will never change. Women marry men with the hope they will change. Invariably they are both disappointed."

I wonder with the somewhat larger cheating culture here, how many Dads are raising kids that aren't theirs?

It is pretty common in the US, well more common than it should be. I think in Japan, it may very well be even more common Shocked

I have heard from several sources that Japanese wives pretty much stop having sex after the kids are born. Is this true?

That must have been Einstein's other "Theory of Relativity".

Since no one has waded in to refute this in 5 days I'll take that as a sign that there's at least some truth to it.

That, or Japan has turned all long-term male teachers into blushing prudes.

Well, I can't say for sure, but that does seem to be the case. It doesn't surprise me though, since the kids usually share or stay in the parents' room. It's surprising that anyone can have more than one with the lack of privacy.

Maybe some of the married men here can answer this.

While some of the other married guys I know seem to have some problems in this regard, it is not one that I share with them, most fortunately.
