Was wondering...
Its all well and fine them telling me I will get the working Z visa but is this actually the case?
As its Beijing where the job is.
Could I do all this and then right up to the last minute the chinese embassy could turn around and refuse my entry?
If they did would I be able to re apply for another part of china where it is not as strict on visa's?
Or do these agencies have there ways in order to help us get the visa with the letter of invitation.
Cheers.

You won't know (and neither will anyone on here) until they send you the documents that will allow you to apply for the Z visa. I snipped this from the Edinburgh consulate's visa agency website. You will need these to get a Z visa

"2. Supporting documents

Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by Chinese relevant units, as well as one of the following approval documents:
(1) Alien Employment License of the People’s Republic of China issued by the Chinese government authority for Human Resources and Social Security;
(2) Permit for Foreign Experts Working in China issued by the State Bureau of Foreign Experts;"

The next step for you is to get these documents, and then take them to your nearest embassy/consulate. Has the school given you any indication as to when you'll receive them? Remember, you need the Z visa in your passport before entering China. Do not get on a plane without it! If they give you any BS about coming over on a tourist visa and getting a Z visa later, walk away.

I would also suggest, that unless they tell you that the documents are being processed right now, and will be with you very soon, that you look for other jobs. You don't need to commit to anything, just put another few irons in the fire in case this one doesn't work out. There's no harm in looking around.

So being from the UK where would I get these documents. Do we have a Chinese embassy over here then I take it?

Also in regards to my medical, do I just go see my doctor/GP? Do they actually have to go through each test by test or is do some of them just sign off your medical to be approved?

And with the criminal background check, being from scotland is a basic disclosure suitable?

Cheers guys.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to consult the stickies, they provide the information you need. However, I'll lay down the basics then you can follow them up.

The UK has one embassy (London) and two consulates (Manchester and Edinburgh). I can only speak of Manchester as that's the one I'm most familiar with. The consulate in Manchester does not process 'ordinary' visas, only diplomatic and special visas. Meaning you have to use the attached 'Visa Centre', which charges double Evil or Very Mad .

Your employer will send you two forms: An invitation letter and a work application permit. You then take these to the consulate/embassy and start the process. You can do this by post or in person, though since I last did it the 'one day express' option no longer exists, so that would mean two trips.

Check that the embassy needs a health certificate. When I did one they did not require one, it's the people China side that want one. I submitted my health check from September 2011 this time and there doesn't seem to be a problem.

I cannot say with authority about the basic disclosure, it's a new requirement they put in, but I expect it will be fine.

Thats great shroob. Good info Smile

I have decided also for my mock lesson to pick a topic related to animals.

I am going to pick 3 animal names, play a song on the guitar about "Ol mcdonalds farm" lol and then a quick game related to these animals I think that would suffice for the interview and fill up the 15 minutes.

Problem is that your intended audience may have zero idea what your song is about or how it relates to the words you might like to teach.
Also, are the names of farm animals useful to your learners? What will they do with this knowledge once they have it?

Anyway, they may be pleased that you can play and sing, even if the relevance is unclear.

Round about now it should be occurring to you that you're going to have to plan and deliver for 30 hours a week, week in, week out. Consider how much energy it's taking to plan and deliver a 15 minute demo lesson then work out how you can keep that up. If it seems horrific then think about at least doing a CELTA before you start out on this road.

Demo lessons. I sometimes wonder do the recruiters just ask for them to mock applying candidates...

Why would the animals: cat, dog, monkey be irrelevant to a young learner? Who cares about the song (which the recruiter will like)...It's a creative and entertaining way to reinforce the animals name that the young children just learned and perhaps learn some new words with the imagined help of a Chinese assistant in the classroom.

Agree and especially if it could be linked to the Chinese New Year animals to make it even more relevant culturally.

It's why I'd like to move on from the kiddies and teach older students. Smile

Yeah I will be playing guitar and singing. Its a mock interview so it is actually the recuiter I am doing all this with... Lol

And to answer your question yes I would be able to make up lesson plans no problem for a 30 hour week for young learners.

I just needed idea's for the interview via Skype as its a very different scenario to actually teaching in the class room.
