What songs have worked well for you in junior high classes? Ideally a summer theme would be best as I have to use them at summer English camp. However, any song that they'll enjoy will work for me.

Thanks!

Just for fun, how about Frozen songs in English? It may try your sanity, though.

I sometimes do "The Bear in Tennis Shoes" (森のくまさん) and the theme to "Astroboy" (アトム) with my JHS kids. I set it up like a "Whisper down the alley"/Telephone game. And give the lyrics to the teams one line at a time. I don't tell them it's a song until the very end. At the end, I give them the actual words and do a couple rounds of "Listen and repeat after me." with the lyrics we covered. (Usually only the first verse) but we don't sing it. Last listen and repeat, I sing it. The kids then go, "....aaaaaaah アトムだ" and we sing together. Works for Christmas songs too. "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer" usually ends up something like, "Blue off is nose bled blender."
This is in the classroom, not a campfire sing-a-long, so adjustments will have to be made I'm sure.

What you need is the sound of the summer.

Bryan Adams - Summer of 69
Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime
Grease - Summer Lovin'
Summer in the City
Banannanananananarama - Cruel Summer

Awesome. Banannarama, (along with Duran Duran) is one of my guilty pleasures. Not sure I'd try and use a song the kids are totally unfamiliar with, no matter how fun it is. If they know the tune already, it gives you a hook to hang the words on. But what the heck, it's summer camp, have fun!
