How does the AIDS test work for people who are just coming in on a tourist visa? Do you need an exact address, or do they expect you to report back to them at a certain date? I couldn't see how they'd keep up with you once you exited the airport. You'd think a guy, or girl, could do a lot of damage before they found out the results(no pun intended.) Moreover, what are the costs for the test and is there a physical exam invovled too?

Do you mean the medical? You only need a medical to apply for a work permit / ARC. Technically you could do a lot of damage before they found out, if you were a bit unbalanced and had a grudge against the human race (and you could find a partner to inflict yourself upon).

You need a medical for an ARC. The results are sent to your school. Everybody in the office will have a good read before you see the results.

The physical takes an hour or so. Bloody test, pee test, maybe poo test, eye test and a couple of other things. Can't remember the price but not more than 2000 NT.

Few countries ask for a medical in order to visit. I had to do a medical to get my Canadian work permit / residency but I could have come here and spread my diseases for 6 months with no visa at all!

Enlightening. Then they have no cases of AIDS or HIV over there in Taiwan? With legal/illegal prostitution to boot? I wonder then.

Anyway, I hate to say that I've been promiscuous or that I haven't, but the last time I had an HIV test was about two years ago. I was in Korea all that time so I'd say I was pretty safe. No sleeplessness or cold sweats yet. It's just the mystery of AIDS, you know, that makes it creep up on people without them knowing and me wondering if maybe ten years ago I accidentally met the wrong one.

Oh well, I'm pretty clean these days. Thanks for the info. I don't plan to be a wild guy.

I'm sure Aids is as widely spread as any other country. Prostitution is also everywhere buy not as in your face as Thailand, or at least not to foreigners.
