I was wondering if anyone had any experience of the IH Lacunza group? I understand that they have several schools in Northern Spain. Are they a good option for a first ESL job abroad?
I'm CELTA qualified with 6 months ESOL teaching experience in the UK. I also have a year an a half of experience working in an FE college in the UK.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! |

Know they have a well-established school in San Sebastian, but have no personal experience of it.
Lovely town, bit expensive though. |

I applied to International House Madrid the other year and they rejected me. I have lots of experience and reference letters to prove it. But IH Madrid was only interested in the grade on my TESOL certificate, which I did 12 years ago. Was it an A? No, I said. All communication ceased. I was told that high grades in TESOL are vital.
IH Lacunza might be a delightful school to work in, and the town may be okay. I assume you have a CELTA or TESOL. But check whether IH Lacunza also has grade restrictions. They may or may not. |

Like most big ELT organizations (and IH has something like 150 (?) schools in different countries), different schools within a single umbrella organization can vary quite a lot.
"Mixed reviews" are probably to be expected. I know a LOT of people who've studied and/or worked at different IHs, a few I've heard bad reports of (can't think of any in Spain), but mostly been good or very good (though the pay isn't great, which in Spain is generally the case in private language schools). |
