				Hi all -

I did give this a forum search but wasn't sure which terms to use! Sorry if it's been covered.

I took a one-month Trinity TESOL course in 2007 before moving to Hong Kong - enjoyed it and got a good mark, but ended up working in a different industry. I've never used my qualification. I'd like to look for TEFL work now, first in the UK (Bath/Bristol area) if possible and then later abroad. It seems a refresher course would be a good idea, any recommendations? Would online be OK? I don't want to spend more than I have to, but equally I don't want to pay for something cheap but useless!

FYI, I'm a UK citizen with a BA and MA in non-education related subjects.

Many thanks! |

Maybe not what you want to hear but I would say that what you really need is a course with teaching practice. The theory can all be reviewed and is really only academic. I'm sure you could find out online how to prepare a lesson. If you haven't been in the classroom, this is what you need. The biggest obstacle to beginning a teaching job is learning to stand in front of people and lead/guide them, not remembering how to plan a PPP lesson |

				| No that's great, no problem! If I have to save up and redo a course, so be it. No point spending money on an online course if it won't help me get work. Thanks for the advice! |

				| Why 'redo' a course? If you want another course then take the CELTA, that way you would have both of the big two! Tip: If you know where you want to teach then consider doing the course in that country, it gives you a little edge. |

You want a refresher course?

Easy, go to work in some language mill somewhere. And then you get paid to teach in a classroom and you can get comfortable with being there. Then once you have a year of recent exp. under your belt, you can start to look at better EFL jobs. |

				| After a year's break after training, I taught part-time evenings at a local language school. I found that tuned me up fine. Also, it was easier to get work, as the full-timers didn't really want the evening slot. |
