|
|
Hello everyone,
I recently finished my contract at AEON and now I'm looking into private teaching. I've seen websites like findastudent.com, findstudents.com, hello-sensei.com, but I'm not sure if these sites are all good. They aren't asking for money so I don't see that they might be scams or anything, but just wondering if anyone has used these sites or others like them. What were your thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any feedback! (Also please feel free to PM me about my time at AEON, I would be happy to answer questions) |

As students need to pay to get your contact info. from these sites, I'm not sure how many actually do. Either my profiles suck or these sites don't work very well. The monthly report from one site says around 15 people a month look at my profile. Only two potential students contacted me in 8 months (from two separate sites). It may also be due to me living in a semi-remote location. It hardly seems worth it to lower my price to compete with others, who seem happy to teach one-on-ones for ¥1500. If I factor in commute cost, I'd make money by staying home at those rates. |

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize students had to pay before they could contact you...but I am living in central Tokyo so personally I couldn't be any less remote, haha.
Can I ask how you find your students? |

Usually at their desks shortly before the start of class, though sometimes they're late
As far as private students, I found one while viewing cherry blossoms. I suppose if I really wanted to put forth some effort, I could post a bill at my community center, et cetera. I suppose spending my evenings with more students isn't exactly my biggest priority. Perhaps I just need to be hungrier |

japan-guide.com has a section for language exchange seekers, then they have a separate one -if I remember correctly- for language tutors who offer their services in ads. |

Thanks for the suggestions! I made some profiles and am getting some business cards made so hopefully I can scrounge up some students... not hungry yet but I'd like to keep it that way! |
