Janiny, things have changed since you went to High School

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglosphere

Unlike many teachers I stay abreast of what is happening in the world ! CPD ! Vital ! WHERE did you say you were working ? Probably in some medieval backwater like Saudi Arabia !

Oh, I imagine quite a few teachers try to stay abreast in a vocation as male-dominated as ESL. But if anybody is in need of English, and its potential to involve analysis and reasoning, it's the medieval backwaters-- nuance, it's contagious!

That said, how could I make this post and not advocate the use of Anglosphere one hundred percent!

Abreast is not gender specific and neither is breast. I'm a man and can beat my breast whenever I want...

Dear Sasha,

Ah, my bosom buddy - perhaps the filter has finally been updated to be abreat of this salacious century. Very Happy

Let's test it - can you hear me? If not, *beep* up your ears,

Regards,
John

BBC World are really aggravating my savage breast at the moment with their constant use of the phrase 'we'll keep you across this story' rather than we'll 'keep you abreast of this story' or even we'll keep you up-to-date...

I didn't realize goading Scot with a school yard taunt would bear such scrutiny. His use was adverbal.
But, uh, Tarzan never beat his breast,
as nouns go,
I like John's usage the best,
but further o'er turned my face
is the breast plate
and all the chicken, or crow, I might digest

Oddly? Breast cancer in men is termed gynecomastia.
