				| Hello everyone,
This question is pretty specific, but I am moving to Istanbul in a few weeks and was wondering if I need any extra vaccinations or medications? I have Hep A and B and all the regular ones, but do I need anything special for malaria? What are your experiences?

				| I don't think maleria is a problem in Istanbul.
Whenever I've gone through customs I've only had to show them my passport and residence permit, never my plane ticket (although maybe that's because I'm a resident...
  ).

				| I have never had to show a return ticket when arriving at Istanbul International. Their only concern seems to be that I should pay the visa fee.
Incidentally for citizens of the USA the fee has gone down to a more reasonable $20. It was a hefty $100.

				| Vaccination for malaria ? I thought you took prophylactics ! And they are a bad idea long term because of nasty side effects.
I never heard that anywhere in Turkey was malarial though so..................

				| Theres Malaria in the east of the country esp round Şanliurfa because of the dam and a doctor from outsıde Dıyarbakir told me that there are instances of it to the north of there but even if youre travelling there youd be pretty unlucky to get it. İ shouldnt think that youll be at risk in ;stanbul and anyway the drugs as mentioned are a health risk in themselves. Maybe gin is still the best option! | |

				| It is gin and tonic you need ! The tonic water has quinine which is the traditional treatment.
In my time we took Daraprim but there are a host of others - some strains of malaria are resistant. Cerebral malaria will kill you but that is more common in Africa than Turkey.

				| I do believe that you can enter the country with only a one-way ticket, but if you're travelling from the States and especially on American Airlines, they will want to have you buy a roundtrip ticket unless you can show them a resident permit or valid work visa. I've had it happen to me. My residence permit had expired the day before, but in Turkey they have a two-week grace period. The agent had to call the Turkish Embassy and Turkish Airlines to get their approval before she'd let me on the plane with a one-way ticket. Good luck. | |

				| Hi Teresa
As far as I know a stiff G and T is a cure all for most things preferably Gordons, the local stuff is better used a s toilet cleaner or furniture polish. Anyway the idea of a drink with you sounds fine ,ahem, will your Kurdish boyfriend let you though ? I think not .
