|
|
Hi I am planning to go to china to teach English I have a BA and have completed my Train the Trainer and PTLLS certificate I currently train people in IT.
I was going to go through an agency, however after reading other forums, it sounds like I would be better of applying for a job myself.
can anyone provide links or contact information for schools looking for teachers in China I am interested in teaching in or around the Qingdao area.
thanks

So you want people to do the legwork for you? That's a bad sign for living in China. |

Seems there are always jobs available in Yantai, not far from Qingdao... |

I am, like you, getting ready for my first foray into teaching in China, so I'm hardly an expert, but as far as reputable sites for job searching I have mostly found Dave's to be useful, as well as www.ChinaJobList.com (which has a very clear format and isn't cluttered with vague recruiter posts, and has given me lots of responses). eChinaCities has a huge number of attractive jobs, but I have not gotten many responses from employers posting there.

The problem isn't really whether China job sites are "reputable," but that the recruiters and employers who are posting the jobs are not always "reputable." Some sites have lots of attractive-looking jobs, but the picture starts to look different when you try to apply. |

google or wiki search the university/college names in the city. find the website, change to english, find the icon that says "job application", click on it and it should give position and email/phone contact details - sometimes 8 years outdated, but the reputable schools seem to keep them relevant. the really decent gigs seem to find replacements either through word of mouth, old teachers leaving and recommending a friend, or people coming to them. it's a bit more time consuming this way, but i think increases the likelihood of getting a better position. sites like ANESL.com seem to recycle the same 30 schools semester in, semester out. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qingdao#Education
The links in the Wikipedia article are not links to the school sites, but links to further Wikipedia data on an individual school.
Once you have a name, cut and paste it into Google and you should get to the actual school website.
If there isn't an 'Employment' link look for 'FAO' or 'Overseas Enrolment' and you should get a usable email address. |

Bingo, no matter how good a site is designed or presented it is those unreputable agents, employers etc. that can bring it down to turd territory, because of open registration. Moreover due to time zone differences you can waste days in useless communication before finding out the offer/school is a joke.
This industry needs strong regulation to maintain some sort of basic standard, it is just like the carnival deregulatory cesspool that the US I Banks operated in before the 2008 financial crisis. The only difference is we are talking about a few thousand of $$s compared to the billions loss in CDOs, MBSs and sub prime mortgages. |

@ astrotrain agree 100% however in reality as most people assume this industry is full of unqualified, drunken slackers and wasters they see it as a joke. Oh no wait they might be right.
Don't kid yourself that the EFL industry is loose change, worldwide this is a multi billion dollar industry.
If you give a crap about having a career, getting the qualifications and putting in the groundwork then it can be a really good life choice. |
