Oh well, 'grammar' might get a new label. Somehow I will continue to devoting myself to getting students to communicate rather than worrying about whether they might impress with me with their knowledge of 'higher' literature.

By the way, speaking of higher purposes, how is the chess class going? Have you taught the rope a dope method yet?

Were you to have been specific, I might have responded to a criticism made in good faith...
So I have to respond that if all you have is a hammer and a sickle, everything begins to look like either a nail or bundle of wheat. Wink

Without demonstration (exercise and assessment expressions) of Crystal's concern, a teacher without interest or study in linguistics and semiotics interpreting his framing will likely conclude the concern is purely semantic-- but it isn't.
