The Ministry is really strict on the standards for their Omani English teachers, requiring 79 in TOEFL or band 6.5 IELTS. Even the teachers who will only teach the basic levels must pass this score and it has caused no end of frustration for those who have somehow passed through a B.ed TEFL from Ajman university, for example, and are not even close.
Of course, there are plenty of teachers who have found jobs despite this - the ones who got their jobs several years back, part of the famous (infamous?) Leeds university program. New graduates though are having a hard time passing muster.
Lots of juicy scandals because of this, TOEFL score fakes, counterfeit reports etc. |

The boys also have a problem passing IELTS at a high enough level to be employed. |
I presume that you mean to teach English language classes since the rest of the courses are still taught in Arabic, aren't they? VS |
I was referring to the English language classes. |

The fact that students from Rustaq and elsewhere can get a B.Ed in English language but can't achieve IELTS 6.5 is an indicator of the worthlessness of their degrees. |

And an indicator of the worthlessness of the programs they 'graduate' from or the 'great' teachers they no doubt have. |
