I am planning to get certified in Thailand, but won't necessarily end up working there. If I do leave Thailand to work, I'm thinking Japan is a likely option.
Can anybody say which certification/s from which schools in Thailand would be best regarded in Japan? |

Hi Snappyd,
TEFL International's TESOL certificate is not as well known as the RSA/CELTA. TEFL International's reputation is growing steadily and their project is expanding rapidly, athough I am not sure if they have a school in Japan yet.
In terms of a 'best regarded' certificate, the RSA/CELTA takes first place. The most popular place to take the certificate in Bangkok is ECC at Siam Square.
Good luck.

You don`t need a TEFL certificate to teach in Japan, but it doesn`t hurt to help you be a better teacher. It really doesn`t make much difference which certificate you get, as far as employers go here. Get the certificate that you think is best. |

As there's such competitiveness (sp?) in regards to TEFL courses here it's basically a buyers market so ask them to let you observe the classes and speak to current trainees, do this at all of the schools you're interested in and then pick the best for you! It also gives you a chance to speak to teachers already working here in Thailand and their thought on various courses!
Good luck! |

Gordon, are you in Japan? Or when you said it doesn't matter to emplyers HERE which certificate you get, did you mean Thailand?
kenkannif, that's a good idea, going to the various schools. Here's my concern: I am arriving in Thailand in mid-September, and I want to start a certifiation course in October (or November at the latest); will the October certification courses be booked up by the time I tour the schools in mid-late September?
Thanks! |

I doubt very much if they'll be full (maybe the CELTA will).
Also some providers will help you (on trust) with a Visa BEFORE you come (very important).
PM me if you'd like any further info!
Good luck! |

I am in Japan and I was referring to Japanese employers. I don't know anything about Thai employers. |
