Small town about 40km from a major city. Everyone's posting costs of living in big Polish cities, but that's not all that's out here.
1400PLN /Month 80m flat
Winter heat - 250pln/m
Summer heat - 80pln /m
[gas heat]
family of four - 2 kids
1000pln / m food
kids extracurricular
[martial arts/dance/pool] - 100pln
ZUS [tax on running company aka social security] - 1100pln/m [or about 400 during the first two years]
Three cellphone bills 260pln per month [tax deductible]
School lunches (2kids) - 12pln per day [two full, hot meals - I can actually join my kids if I want to and pay 6pln]
Free pre and after school care between 6am to 4pm
Private health care - 220pln per month [although not entirely necessary if you're here legally, children under the age of 18 receive mandatory free health care but I'm one of those - better safe than sorry types]
Internet 79pln/m
Bus Ticket one way 3,40pln
Beer at a local bar 5pln
Train or bus ride to the city 8,80pln / 10pln [1hr ride]
Bus to the mountains - 3,40 [20min ride]
Działka aka private garden with a small hut where you can grow your own fruit and veggies - 50pln per month.
If you're NOT legal and can't register with the Polish health care services, a private visit to a general doctor - 40pln
a private visit to a specialist - 100pln
Medication, in comparison to the states, is ridiculously inexpensive [on a teacher's salary that is].
Pay in a small town IF you're running your own business:
Private lessons, individuals 60pln/60mins [experienced Native Speaker rate of course]
Proof reading 30pln per page
Translation 50pln per page
Group lessons 150pln/m for Gen Eng, Biz Eng 170pln/m
If you want to hire a Polish teacher to handle some of your extra classes, paying them anything less than 30pln / h is rape and I would not be able to look them in the eye. Although most schools in small town pay much less. The bigger the school the worse the pay. |

| From my perspective, the wages haven't changed in years. However, the cost of living has, dramatically. |

Just pent 10 days at the Polish seaside with a family of four. Total cost?
870PLN.
Got there by train, stayed in a camper about 200m from the beach.
Yes, shared bathroom at the camp site, I can deal with that "nothing flash". The camper was a nice communist era type thing which was a nice touch. We ended up making friends with a family next to us who were also heavy into fish. So mornings and afternoons at the beach, evenings with fresh fried fish and vodka. The real Polish experience.
It's possible to spend very little money in Poland on travels and vacations, just need to look for the "real Polish experience" and not tourist traps with kebab joints and Chinese souvenir stands littering every block.
South West of Poland is absolutely amazing and very cheap. Also, proximity to the border allows for a great opportunity to have beer nights. Czech beer - 3pln per 1l  can't go wrong with that when it comes with a nice portion of local fried cheese.
Our jobs allow us to find out about some of the best vacation spots in the country. Just run a lesson on your favorite vacation spot in May and take notes Give it few years and you'll be telling your students where they should be staying. |

| Sounds like fun but it's horses for courses. I don't do camping. Me and the missus tend to rent a flat or stay in a hotel. We got a good deal in Krakow at 200Zl/night for nice studio but Sopot was 450Zl and Kolobrzeg 1,200 for 3 nights but it was the Marine Hotel on the beach. The seaside is a bit overpriced IMHO. Beskidy is definitely on the radar at some point as I've never been and have hard great things about the place. |
