| Old myths die hard. People still believe that you can save enough in a couple of years in KSA to set yourself up for life. That has not been true for a loooooooooooong time. |

I don't have any such illusions. I don't expect to get rich through teaching. All I want is to get started on a decent savings account and with some small-time investing in stocks. Hopefully all the work I've put into becoming a writer pays off and I get rich that way |

Then, I guess that it all depends on what one considers a " financial safety blanket" to mean. I take scot's interpretation.
Go to Korea where the natives have the nationalistic arrogance, but not the money of Sowdy... |

I am 26 years old. I have an m.a in education with emphasis in teeol. My first job after university is a direct hire position in a college in riyadh. I had no prior experience. So it's not impossible to get a job with no experience.
With that said most of the better jobs in oman uae qatar require prior experience. |

However, the OP has a non-related BA. Plus, your employer apparently gave you credit for your relevant MA although it included online coursework. But that's not the case for all direct-hire employers. |

So, for you, the sky's the limit...in the world of teeol... |

I know for a fact that you too Mr Fifth have made typos... so you better not throw too many stones.
If teeol has anything to do with professional golf, the pay is better and so are the locations.

And let's not forget the thousands of teats (i.e. tests) I have created for my classes.
Well, the "a" and the "s" ARE right next to each other on the keyboard.

| Is it possible to get a job in Saudi Arabia with no teaching experience? I'm 39 and making a career change. I've worked corporate jobs since college, and in the process, developed a desire both to teach and to travel, so I recently decided to become an ESL teacher. I saved up, quit my job, earned a CELTA, and am now looking for my first teaching job. My primary goal is to save as much money as possible in the first year or two in order to build a financial safety blanket before then moving to the countries I'd really like to work in where the salaries are not very high. I've been focussing on Korea, but I'd really like to go to Saudi Arabia if I can indeed make significantly more there. But it seems impossible to find a job there that doesn't require experience, and I'm thinking that even if I did, my lack of experience would limit my pay to the same as what I'd be making in Korea. Is it a lost cause? Should I just give up on Saudi Arabia for now and go straight to Korea? |
It is very possible to "get a job" as a newbie but working overseas for an entire year is a big commitment. Are you sure that you are ready to begin in a place like Saudi Arabia? Even veterans of ESL with years of experience can have problems living in Saudi Arabia. You will be required to make many sacrifices. Think long and hard before making the decision. |
