Well here goes! I think without munity and boycott of this great site - a facebook page is strongly needed to aid all teachers in Saudi. Post your photos, videos - share experiences maybe by covert spy equipment. Obviously you would need a few pedigree moderators to cut out the explicit bootlegging, strip-clubs, swingers, wife-swapping and bahrain binges. Just an idea to 'spark-up' our lives in Sandbox. Oh yes - especially when I get there. Btw - Is facebook banned there? |

How about some examples of how such a "strongly-needed" FB page will "aid" all teachers in KSA. |

I think this would be a great idea, but also could be extremely dangerous. For one, if you were to "Friend" such a page, so to speak, how would you know who is and isn't scoping you out. This field has a lot of snakes. Anyone could link up to your personal information, find information about you, and the next thing you know, they can relay this to your superiors. I've seen it happen with colleagues who are all about Linkdin, and Twitter. I appeared in a twitter post myself. To be honest, there are a lot of people out here whom you simply cannot trust. They have nothing better to do with their free time, than create rumors and stories about each other, for the sake of remaining in a state of entertainment. I think a facebook page would be a bad idea. I wouldn't join it, and if someone were pressing me to do so (as a recruiter did after I was processed to come out here) I would simply say "please stop pressing me to do this." You honestly cannot trust anyone out here. Look out for your own best interests first. |

Of course not. However, given that you started this thread and intentionally used the terms "urgent," "strongly needed," and "aid all the teachers," asking how and why are valid questions. |

Zuckerberg and the Commission for the Prevention of Vice can jointly use it to keep tabs on dangerous liberal elements. |

Interesting - sounds like Saudi has - or is a police state. Well the wise ones here would know better. |

Saudi is not a police state. That would take too much work. You'll have to search long and hard to find a cop. The religious police will happily spy on your FB and even send you messages pretending to be a fellow traveller wanting to join in on the fun, but that's not because they are thorough or vigilant. It's just that the unimportant crimes are the most fun to prosecute! |
