Yeah, he was nasty, I know. I'm glad he's gone.

There is not much else except this. Some people post on Japan Times or Japan Today. |
I think I had a look at Japanese Today after Gaijinpot closed down. It's hard to get used to another forum, though. I only read these posts which focus on teaching mainly. |

I am surprised he never got banned.
No need to look down on other teachers since we did not get tenure. |

Me, too. I often thought that he should have been banned from the forums for the way he responded to people asking questions on the Japan forum.
I personally know tenured and contract university teachers who posted here who were talked down to by Glenski when they posted questions relating to teaching EFL in Japan.
They decided to just stop posting.
Have you noticed that there are a lot fewer posts that are locked now that Glenski is gone? |

If JR insists on making its employees wear uniforms designed in the early 20th century, maybe it should bring back matching steam engine trains. |

I think the design is not improtant for a functiaonl poitn of view but maybe just to reassure the customre that JR is the same company as it has always been and it has a good reputaton. It is like those deparntment stores with the ladies with the 1950s style unifroms with the funny hats. People like that kind of thing rather than new styles. And the same with the school unifroms which make people feel like the schools are focusing on important serious issues of educaiona and not some new trends. |
I think you make a good point.
Also, the way the Japanese think is, it gives the general public confidence in JR as being a safe, reliable service.
Modernity and functionality do not enter the equation. |

wait, what? People are upset about what Glenski said on another forum. Dude was boring as all get out but frequently spoke the facts and only the facts. If you'd been living in Japan long enough you'd have heard all the same questions and read all the posts by posters who failed to use the "search" function too.
Meanwhile, as for JR. Trains run on time, trains are clean, stations are mostly clean, fares are reasonable... and people honestly think the uniforms need changing?
I don't get it. Frankly, I like the uniforms and if people can't see the subtle changes year to year they are simply not looking hard enough. |

I didn't notice or pick up what a lot of people have said about Glenski in terms of his behaviour/tone. I felt that his comments were fairly accurate based on my own experiences in Japan. |

That's funny, you've only been a member since May, but Glenski's last post was over a year ago I think.
So what's the name on your other account then? |

Hello Nightsintodreams. I became a member earlier this year and this is the only account I have ever had on this forum.
I have actually been a frequent visitor to Dave's ESL Café for at least 10 years - maybe more - I can't remember when I first started visiting the site. During this time, I have read Glenski's posts on the Japan forum. You couldn't miss him as he made a post on just about every topic. I have to point out to you that you don't need an account to view posts on this site. |

Dammit! I thought Glenski might have come back from the dead to defend his honour. |

So now that Gaijin Pot forums have been shut down, are there any other Japan focused forums that are popular.
There's is f*cked gaijin and gaijinnot but it's pretty slow and not much useful information.
Which site is Glenski posting his visa information on these days! aha!! |
Probably on Reddit Japan. Miles busier than GaijinPot ever was |

I think something happened to gaijinnot, as the server no longer seems to be found when I try to visit. |

He posts on the Japan Ref forum quite a bit, if you miss him.
I like Glenski. He usually has his facts straight and I don't mind his writing manner. Somehow manages to be both blunt and verbose at the same time. |

I just checked Gaijinnot.com. nothing there. Site went down or closed, it seems.
Glenski is a boor. He is crude. His giving information on visas isn't about wanting to help you, it's more about a deficiency of his own personality. He's an advice giver. That's what makes him feel good.
Glen cannot speak Japanese beyond the old 3kyu level and lucked it into a permanent, full-time university teaching position with a completely unrelated master's degree - biology - and no doctorate. I take everything he says with a grain of salt.
He is the last person I would be taking advice from on making it in Japan as an EFL teacher.
The guy is just a miserable dork stuck in Hokkaido. |
