So I'm having trouble finding the answer and before I start paying loads more money for the expedited service I'd need, I thought I'd ask here. What background check did you need to teach in the UAE? Do I need a FBI criminal background check or would a local one suffice?

Depends on the job, only your employer can tell you if it is required. I never provided anything for university teaching in any of the Gulf countries. The individual governments did a background check, but I had nothing to do with it and it was done before I arrived.

Military or petroleum company jobs may require something extra... men who have worked in those areas will have to answer for those employers.

Thanks. I'm mainly looking into public and private schools if that helps.

K-12? If so, it will depend on the employer.

If public, Teachaway is probably the best option. Take care with private employers... many of them are pretty awful. We have very few "school" teachers here on this board; most teach adults. But do check out any offers you get... here... google... facebook...

Your recruiter or employer will let you know what you need once you've been short-listed. In the meantime, check for Facebook pages for your target employers and ask there.

I went through Teachaway for ADEC and had to get an FBI report. Oddly enough, I had to sign that it wasn't for employment purposes when I got it. What on earth do they think we get it for, for fun??
