Hi Guys

I am considering Teaching English in the Marmaris area - starting in Jan 05 for 6 months or so (if that's possible?)

Anyone doing that right now? Any knowledge of the opportunities in the area?

I hold a BA (Hons) Social Sciences degree 2.1 together with a MBA Masters in Business Administration from Warwick Business School and am about to start the Trinity Tesol Cert.

Have run my own business and been an Adviser / Educator to all forms and sizes of business in the UK for 10 years +. I am female and wonder what perceptions are held about businesswomen / female teachers in Turkey?

This is beginning to sound like a C.V!

That's NOT the intention I promise - just want to give a picture of my background and gain some realistic advice from those who are in the know!

Any advice in terms of how best I could combine my skills i.e. business education and teaching English ?

Importantly what if any opportunities exist and what approaches are best!

Have tried with difficulty to obtain a listing of establishments in the area - but no luck as yet!

Plan to be in Marmaris / Icmeler area in mid September - so what about on the spot approaches?

Any help however small would be greatfully received.

My thanks in anticipation

Marmaris is a big tourist area, for those of you who don't already know this. I imagine that you might be able to contract with some of the businesses there to offer English to their staff? Just a thought. It would be you writing a curriculum and securing materials, but then that might be a good challenge. There must be dershanes and language schools in the area, but I don't know any offhand.

Thanks Guys for the feedback - particulary liked your suggestion Gelin as this would utilse both sets of skills i.e. business and english - may even pick up work on a freelance basis as an Adviser both Turkish and Ex-Pat businesses alongside English lessons.

Sales, Marketing and Financial management are my particular strenghts. Two vital areas of good business management!

That throws up another question re self employment and work permit - any knowledge on that please?

Gadfly how do you know that the college you mention has no vacancies - know people who already teach there or have you tried yourself?

Look forward to any further thoughts

I have a lot of friends and business contacts in the Marmaris area ,if I thought it was a viable proposition to working full time in the third largest city and earning 3 big ones a month then I would have moved there a long time ago ,its a nice place to be in the summer but like Bodrum turns into a village in the winter .
