This fall the Tokyo BOE just added five teachers to work part-time as ALTs.
Sounds like money is really tight. Maybe JET has money, but budgets getting cut is just normal now. |

Yeah, it's ugly here. I am not trying to be down on jobs here, but unless you have serious credentials, such as TEFL/and or a teaching lisc, you'll struggle to make a real living here. 25K a month isn't adult money, it's recent grad money. |

OK, and when you say "recent grad money", what are we talking about? Studio apt., public transportation, eat out 2-3 times a week, cook at home the rest of the time, membership in an Aikido dojo, maybe some Japanese lessons? |

Sure, yeah you could do all that on the 250k(I'd pick BJJ over Aikido any day though). If you want to save up for a house/condo and have a family, that is going to be hard. You would have to do a lot of side work to be able to provide for your family.
250k def gives you some play money, if you are single. You can go out every week, and blow a lot of money at bars, have a ton of mini vacations, and so on.I'd say that after taxes, rent, and basic leaving, you should have 100k to play with |
