So I have my final interview tomorrow for a teaching position that starts in a couple weeks. I had asked about the documents needed for a visa and whatnot and part of the answer was this...
"(d) Upon your arrival to Hong Kong, you should take the originals of your secondary school graduation diploma, your conferred degree, your teaching qualifications certification (e.g. TESOL, TEFL, teaching diploma, etc.), proof of your teaching experience in the schools of USA) to the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. The address and details can be located at www.hkcaavq.edu.hk. You need to pay approximately HK $ 2100 (find out the exact amount from the website) to obtain the academic assessment within 15 working days. The assessment certificate is a legal document which you may use for your future personal use in job search or academic enrolment."
Is this normal to have to pay this yourself?
Also, I read through that website and it said for teachers that you needed proof of your practicum on letterheaded and stamped paper.... It has to have the type of school, the total hours, and the grade on it... I've never seen such a form, where on earth do I get that?! It said from the qualifying body, but is that my school or the state where my license is from? I could get something from the principal with that info where I did it since I'm subbing there now, but my state won't even do original teaching certificates anymore never mind this form!
Thanks for any help!! |

I am also in a bind with Prime Teachers International. The rep has asked for my degree and copy of passport without even getting an interview. She stated that the client need to see these documents first but I was never informed who the client is or what schools she works with. I don't know what sites are legitimate or not. I do know that footprints is a legitimate agent for Hong Kong schools and others but I hear they are hard t get into. |

This is common in many job application situations, regardless of the country. In general, recruiters/employers need verification of the applicant's nationality and education as part of their review that those specific requirements have been met. Only then, will they will they move forward with a possible interview. So consider it part of the application process. |

I wouldn't pay it without checking. Can you contact the HK government and speak to someone to check whether you need to pay, and what the correct fees should be if so?
Government is very efficient and speak English. |
