| ask, for 40% discount on rental agency fees + soon the prices will go up, I expect based on recent sales of land dedicated for construction (being some of the costliest land purchased so far in da Jing happen no too long ago) and the 50K per Sq. M. is a reality again. |

| Find a teaching job along subway lines 10, 5, and 13 and you will find the most affordable housing since these lines go beyond the 4th ring road and you will never be more than a 30 minute commute to your job. The communities at the ends of line 6 are still affordable but not for long. |

Because I am doing research for an article I am writing about ESL in China, last November I sent out 180 emails to expat teachers in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou and asked them three questions;
1. How many roommates do you have?
2. Could you afford to live without roommates?
3. How much of a raise would you need to be able to live alone?
Results: Question 1 Question 2 Question 3
Beijing
.................. 65% - 1 ....... 72% - No ....... 58% - 2,000 rmb
.................. 22% - 2 ....... 21% - Yes ...... 23% - 0
.................. 09% - 3 .............................. 12% - 3,000 rmb
Shanghai was only slightly more affordable and Guangzhou was roughly
30% more affordable than Beijing. Only 8% of those that helped with the survey said they did not want to live alone. |

| 30 minute commute to your job |
This is not my experience, and with the increase in cost and now some of the stations are requiring "lines" (ques), depending on your locations of work unit. If working in Haidean and living on line 13/15, could take two hours to commute by subway. |
