As a disclaimer I'd just like to say I'm not a fully qualified teacher and I've never been to Russia...

But I think Russian people are brilliant. I'm doing a CELTA course right now. There's a Russian woman who comes to the school I'm at to learn English and when I found out where she was from I went up to her to have a conversation in Russian. I'm not that good, but she was very patient and seemed pretty happy to hear a foreigner speaking her language. Today she came back and gave me a Russian novel as a gift! How cool is that?! Gonna do my best to plough through it now with a dictionary at my side.

Always amusing when some students say silly things like foreigners couldn't possibly understand Bulgakov. Especially when it's a 17-year-old with no recollection and no understanding of the times described within... : )

Much like cars on the road, pedestrians will automatically pass
oncoming people on the right, thereby avoiding the accidental pavement dance that can happen at home. Doesn't always work in crowded places like metro platforms, but is still streets ahead of the 'walking dead' sickness prevalent in many countries, e.g. Turkey, where locals just lumber and lurch blindly and randomly along roads, pavements, shopping malls etc. regardless of others around them.
