Hello,
I have been having a hard time finding the exact work permit requirements for Vietnam. Can anyone provide a link or exact requirement in order to secure a work permit? Thanks in advance. |

It's fluid.
Apparently you need a work permit before entering the country to work. You can then get a visa to enter the country good for a year. So you'll need a sponsor (school or other employer) here.
You need a bachelors degree and a teaching certificate to get a work permit.
A teaching certification can anything from an on-line TEFL to an actual B.Ed..
You also need a medical certification from a Vietnamese government certified source. This means a hospital in Vietnam I believe.
You need a criminal background check from your country.
Your degrees need to be apostilled by your government. If you're from Canada you can sign an affadavit and get a special stamp on your degrees.
If you already live in Vietnam you can get a criminal background check from the local police here and you can substitute 5 years teaching experience for the bachelors degree. If you don't have a work permit and you already live here you'll have to do visa runs every three months or so. If you're married to a local you can get a special visa that's good for the lifetime of your passport. You can then get your visa locally without leaving the country. But the local officials may still require you to leave and re-enter Vietnam during that time.
Any or all of this could change before I've finished typing it.
You could also get a residence card but last I looked it was expensive so I didn't. Others can chime in with the details of that.
I need to mention that I'm in HCMC. The details will vary if you live in Hanoi or some smaller town or city.
Clear? LOL |
