Apparently some bizarre group of basement dwelling ftards calling themselves the Lizard squad has once again hacked FPT modems. They did this last November and have just done it again today.
To prevent this type of attack or fix things if you have been hacked you must change the password and user name (if you can) of your modem from the factory defaults of admin, admin.
Access the modem at 192.168.1.1 .
You should also change the DNS setting son your modem to the Google free DNS of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
Reboot your modem (turn it off for 15- 20 seconds).
This attack seems to only affect wifi so you might also want to change the name of your wifi and the password. Reboot.
FTP should hopefully provide a firmware update for these Chinese POS modems. Today's attack is specifically aimed at FTP Gepon Onu G-93RG1 models.
This is a modem attack so pc antivirus will not likely help you.
The Lizard squad are known for hacking X-boxes and something else on Christmas day and have taken responsibility for shutting down FB, Twitter, Malaysian airlines, North Korea, sending a bomb threat to an airline and a few other other things since last November. One member has been arrested recently in The UK.
Amusingly, their customer base was recently hacked. Customers can pay them as little as $6 a day to launch a denial of service attack. |
