Every tefl teacher I know loves meeting up with family and friends back home but dreads it because of the inevitable comments about "you're really lucky to work abroad," and "I've always wanted to do that but......" Then there's the more bitter "if only I'd done that when...." People who talk about going into international work for years on end without ever doing it generally never do. When I took my first overseas assignment I didn't tell anybody what I was thinking about doing until the night before I left!
Ten years is too long, either do it or move on and accept, that as you say yourself, that it's just a dream never to become a reality. |

When I was a kid, I used to watch 'La Balon Rouge' on Picture Box? (If you are a Brit who grew up in the 70's you'll remember the programme) and always dreamed of a load of balloons taking me away. I lived in Halifax though and not Paris so I had more reason than the little boy in the film.
It's tough I suppose to leave stuff behind - not for me, I couldn't wait to leave and it hasn't disappointed - but a lot of people never get round to doing this. A shame really, they don't know what they are missing. |

Just go and see if teaching and living abroad is for you, you have your degree, that is all you need, if you like it - then plan on the back of that. What is the point of further qualifications if you aren't a teacher?
You'll get a job in China after the holidays, which will be next week, in two weeks, all the universities start their second semester for the year. Problem solved. |

| If I had enough money, I'd be gone. I'll get there. From what I'm hearing, the CELTA seems like the way to go. I figure that if I can save 10k, 'll be able to take CELTA, and have a good nest egg for security. Thats what Im working on now. |

Thanks all
I have an interview Thursday, for a part time English Teaching job in Houston, teaching Hispanic adults at a language center. It could be interesting. Apparently they have training, and some standardized method with about 6 schools.
This could be the start I have been looking for. We'll see. |

Although their short training won't meet the requirements of a full, 120-hour TEFL cert course, it's a start.
