Hello,

TEFL Warehouse is recruiting 300 ESL teachers on this site for the UAE.
Does anyone have any experience with this recruiting company ?

Can anyone translate this gobbledygook and figure out what or who these jobs are for?

Quote:
Business
General Studies
General Studies English
Computer Information Services
Applied Communications
Foundations English – outside of Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Foundations Math
Health Sciences – not so many but specialized
Education – not so many but specialized

That alone would stop me from even applying... that along with zero information on pay and benefits.

I know nothing about them except that their ad is very poorly written. I suspect those are HCT CERT positions, which you could probably apply directly to on HCT's website, if interested.

Using recruiters is NOT the norm in the Emirates, other than the ADEC public schools contract.

Then what is the difference between regular HCT position and HCT-CERT position?
Kindly, answer my question. Tried to find it on the net, but to no result.

HCT does degree programs.

HCT-CERT was set up to do contract teaching. It could be for companies, but usually seems to be military. Because of its name, they must provide some sort of CERTS for completion.

Barqis,
I believe this may be what you're looking for Centre for Excellence of Research and Technology) and yes, per VS, falls under the HCT positions:
http://recruit.hct.ac.ae/webforms/ViewJobDetail.aspx?j=9065
and
http://www.certonline.com/

It's not the norm, but HCT recently started using recruiters.

I see. Thank you for your help.
It looks like from their website - recommended by peripatetic_soul - that on top of their CERT trainings, they also offer degree courses, e.g. B.A.s in various disciplines, as well as they collaborate with some unis in a capacity hard to grasp [ might be that they offer a kind of universal Foundation Year courses, to be later recognized by a number of unis they collaborate with???], a kind of educational outsourcing, becoming very trendy these days [ TRC Colleges do a similar Foundation outsourcing for example, offering International University Foundation Courses].

All hard to figure out from their website [ mind over matter, all the fashion these days], so wild guesses I'm making.

It's not the norm, but HCT recently started using recruiters.

They have used them on and off over the years, but why bother with them if you can apply directly through their website.

Balquis...

The links showed that it is as I said above. HCT has been around for many years. They started giving BA degrees a few years back. CERT does not give BAs... see the second link) They offer something called a Bachelor of Applied Science - no idea what this is. Tech and IT sorts of things it seems. Haven't heard of anyone here who was hired to teach English in any such program. It appears that HCT will also be doing a foundations program that other universities in the country may use. They have always had a foundations program for their own students and that is where the vast majority of their TEFL teachers work.

The goal of UAE government universities is to get rid of Foundations programs, so the students will need to get it somewhere. The original idea was to send all Foundations students to HCT.

If you have the credentials, I suggest that you go to the HCT website(s) and check out their employment page. Why bother with a middle man between you and the employer even at the application process?

Thank you VS.
I thought, judging by the massive scale of this recruitment - 300! - that perhaps, just like in Oman, agencies/or one particular agency Teflwarehouse, are slowly taking over the recruitment of HCT faculty, ''same same'' like Hawthorn for CAS in Oman. But it seems that I was wrong.

Yes, I wouldn't say taking over, but supplementing.

I wonder why they need 300 teachers. (where did you get that number?) They have been cutting staff for the last few years and I don't see any source of large number of additional students...

The number was displayed in their recruitment call here , some 10 days ago. They need M.A and PhD faculty, so it looks like they recruit for a tertiary level, not certs level, to my mind at least.

The graduate degree requirement is a boilerplate requirement.

Why would anyone require a Ph.D for Foundations Maths where the basic level is pre-algebra HS "arithmetic"? It also seems the Math-teaching program ALEKS has a MA pr PhD in Maths since it is being used to teach Maths from the basic "Mastery Learning" approach of computer-assisted teaching/learning/testing. Wonder where ALEKS got the degree Confused

Not sure what a "recruitment call" is. Newspaper or something?

I went to this TEFL Warehouse ad and there is no mention of "300 teachers." It also mentions that it is CERT. Requires BA+Cert with an MA preferred - which is the normal requirements for HCT. No mention of PhDs.

The website above also has an ad for teachers with an MA to teach in "Applied Communications Studies/Media"

Are they doing recruitment or is this just a board advertising various job listings?

Perhaps you can provide a link to this? I suspect that any number of 300 refers not to TEFL, but to all teaching positions in all campuses.

Anyway, I went to the HCT website - which is new and rather glitchy and low tech... vastly inferior to their old site. If anyone wishes to work with HCT, go there... not to some recruiter.
