I suspect that the school have promised you that amount of money, and then you'll rent your apartment, etc. and start working and before you know it, the school will diddle you out of this and that and the other, but you'll have your apartment rent to pay so you won't be easily able to do a midnight run!!!!

Don't forget you'll have to pay taxes too.

Most Shanghai unis pay a standardised 5,000 rmb for 18 teaching periods per week.

Language mills and one joint uni venture pay much higher.

Language mills may require evening and weekend work with irregular and constantly changing schedules. The uni jv is stable and may be the best employment in Shanghai. I believe that Steve works for that jv.

There is a lot more to question than just the monthly salary, but you will discover that in your own time and in your own painful way.

Am I reading this thread wrong or did he ask if 15,500 RMB was a good wage?
I've just started looking for employment in China and that sounds amazing compared to some of the wages I've seen offered?
