It's definitely doable, but China seems to be similar to Japan and Korea in regards to finding that job. Most of them do it online. It might take a few weeks to get rolling, but with some diligence and hitting the streets like back home, you can find a job in a decent amount of time.

Cheers,

Aaron

You can get a job no problem. The issue is being legal. Lots of documentation is needed to get a work visa including criminal background check here in Beijing.

You will also need to pick up your visa either in Hong Kong or your home country.

Dont just land here without a proper visa and if you do understand you may have to return home to get your z visa.

Why would you want to go via the dodgy route when doing it legally is less risk and cheaper?
Something not right here.
OP - please clarify your motivation.

Have fun being an illegal immigrant in the People's Republic. That sounds real fun.

Fact is you are entering the country as a tourist/travel/visit and NOT here seeking employment. Assume you are getting an L visa. You are NOT entitled to look for jobs during your time on an L visa - that is visa fraud. So be careful what you do

I'm not going to China to do Ilegal work. I'm going to dodge the scams. Plus it's possible to do this legal if a visa run to another country is in play. You shouldn't assume my movation is bad. I'm well versed and aware of the L-visa Ilegal activity.

What scams? There are bad jobs and good jobs, but if you go looking for scams at every school, you will find scams at every school. The scambusters that frequent this forum and post the same tired links are just trying to get traffic to their websites. They may also be trying to extort money from schools and agencies to avoid some kind of blacklist, but that's just my (and a few others') theory.

If you find a job in China and want to work legally, you will probably have to return to your home country. It's possible that you will be able to go to Hong Kong to apply for a work visa, but it's much less likely than before. So figure on two round trips, one on your nickel and one that should be partially or fully reimbursed after a year or school year.

Can you cite some authority for the proposition that one cannot look for work while a tourist in China? So long as one isn't employed or actually working, I haven't been able to find any prohibitions. Thanks.

You can find an honest employer without coming to China and incurring the extra expense of a Hong Kong run. There are about 150 employers with no history of cheating people at this link. Pick a few and contact their FAOs directly, send a resume, and negotiate your deal. http://eslwatch.info/forum/china/110-free-esl-tefl-teacher-resources-for-teaching-a-fun-meaningful-class.html

If you want a recruiter to help you - fine. Just read this first http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=644846 If you want to work in China, just make it happen. Take your first step and when you get here, find some veteran teachers to hang out with. You will be fine.

Thank you, you answered my question. I just meant not getting to a school and finding out it's terrible like we discussed before road walker. At the same time though I hear you. Every school is going to have some sucky part of it. It's just a matter if I can put up with that. Thank you
