Duh! I know that but it's a bone of contention in its own right. |

You would think Scot would say Falklands instead, but that is just Scot being Scot. |

Drat!!! And I was even thinking that we should petition the mods to add an Antarctica forum.
That was a good one, Rat! You had us going all day with that one. |

You can try but rats are so very clever as Chinese mythology would have us believe.

Oh, good one, Rat! I was SO into hoping for the vicarious experience. And it worked because it was so believable.

Too bad. I knew a woman who worked in Food Services at a base there (and later taught English). There was good and bad but it was certainly memorable for her. |

So I got another unsolicited job offer by just putting the old CV out there. This one is to teach English to the staff at one of Argentina's six Antarctic bases - Orcadas Station for six months, and then a move to Marambio Station for the remainder of the one-year contract. The pay is fairly modest, but where to spend it? Sounds like a rare opportunity to save virtually all my money, take wonderful pictures from the ship to and from, and imagine how it will look in my job history to say I worked in Antarctica - a whole new continent! Accommodation is provided!!!
I have read before that even Antarctica has ATM machines now, and just recently record high temperatures were achieved on Palmer Peninsula - a balmy 63 Fahrenheit. That's global warming for you. Only male students, but I'm used to that from my years in Saudi Arabia. Yet, I have misgivings. Is the ozone hole a real danger? And won't it get awfully dull living at a research station and shuttling between insulated Quonset huts day in and day out (if you can eve call it day) for twice six months?
Advice is welcome from all. Thanks in advance |

The time stamps on these forums are set according to the time zone of each individual account holder.
My account, for example, indicates that Rat made his initial post at 4:59pm on Tuesday March 31st Mountain Standard Time which, more likely than not, was at a reasonable hour on the morning of April 1st in Northwest Gansu, China. |

No matter from what location one posts, this site records Greenwich Mean Time. And yet, posting one minute before the turn of an hour that turns the day to avoid a date stamp demonstrates a premeditation worthy of a rat, water or no.
