 Don't take low paying jobs. (there are those of us who actually do earn in excess of 3k quid/month while living in Thailand - makes it easy to live comfortably and save most of it for retirement).
 
 Get qualified (QTS) before you come to Thailand.
 
 Get an assistantship or scholarship if you are going to do graduate level studies. Drop the ethnocentrism and look at Asian universities (they are not all bad at the graduate level).
