Does anyone have any info about the Vietnamese American Training College in HCMC? I have spoken with a Vietnamese teacher there but the conversation got cut short. Their website is under construction, so I don't even know how big the school is. If anyone knows anything about this school, please reply.

We will be working for VATC - arriving Monday. 17 centres in Saigon and 5-6 others thru out VN. Our understanding is it's mainly adults.....what do you know and when are you going?

Thats great that you are working there and I wish you the best. I have a family friend that works there. His name is Tien and I have spoken with him only once. All I know is that he has been working there for a while and he likes it. He answered some questions that I had. However, I do not know where he exactly works since I had no idea that the school had so many branches. I plan on arriving in Vietnam in October. I am registering for a TESOL certificate and will begin classes in HCM by the end of October. Do you have any suggestions about the certifications in Vietnam?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Have been in HCMC almost 2 weeks now and am working for VATC. Wrong info re # of centres - should be 7 in HCMC and 6-7 in the provinces. All teachers have good things to say about the school - we were supposed to work in the provinces but were told that they need teachers in the city so we're staying here for the time being. Only thing we don't like is that you go to different centres for classes and the traffic is horrendous - we take motorbike taxis but I'm still petrified. It's a fact of life here so I'm trying to get used to it. Kids are good, admin staff are helpful and material is easy to use.
Re: certification - altho we're rookies it seems to us that a degree and TEFL qualification are needed for the majority of schools.
Have been living in a guesthouse since we arrived but have arranged to rent a small house at the end of next week. The money's good by VN stds. everything is quite cheap - weather very humid but people are by and large friendly and helpful. So far so good from our point of view!!!
