Dear Teachers:
It's a very diverse world that we occupy!
Some of us have all summer off with (or without) pay.
For others, it's business as usual.
There's the summer school option - an oasis of joy and/or madness in the school year.
What's your situation?
Whatever happens to be your case, today's the solstice, the longest day of the year, and I hope you've enjoyed it! |

Summer solstice is celebrated as Inti Raymi here. I find it a bit weird, because all of our days are equal (I think there is a minute or two difference between the longest and shortest day). So I'm not really sure what's being celebrated, or how it was identified historically. Either way, it's quite a big celebration in some areas of the country.
In terms of vacations, up here in the Sierra we are on the same schedule as USA/UK etc, so we will be finishing this year soon. (To the extent that we have a summer, this is it).
One of the reasons I only work part time at uni is so that I can have the summer off (without pay, sadly) and we can take an extended vacation. So I've been working my socks off these last few weeks with extra work to save some cash to see me through the holidays. |

Unpaid summer off here! Well, I get to claim unemployment insurance. I like to put the stub in a frame and hang it next to my fancy TESL degree. |
