Internet in Saudi is pitiful at best regardless with who you go with. But I'm sure nomad_soul and scot47 will be glad to criticise this comment with their almighty experience.

So what you're saying is, because I only had a short (and highly negative) experience of KSA, my opinions are completely invalid because other people have more experience than I do?

Nope, I think anyone's experience, short or long, negative or positive - in Saudi can be of value to those who've never experienced it.

but I think your comment about " . . . their almighty experience." shows a certain defensiveness, and, in addition, would appear to devalue experience.

John

And I guess having my opinions criticised isn't devaluing in any way then?

Dear Gamajorba,

I would say that it's a rare forum or even thread where someone's opinions aren't criticized.

Are they being criticized for being untruthful - I doubt that. Is it OK to criticize others but consider oneself inviolate?

Do you regard disagreement as being "criticism?"

If you do, I guess you're criticizing my posts - but I don't mind. We're talking mainly about personal experiences and opinions here. Naturally, there's going to be disagreement and/or criticism - unless someone believes that her/his experience and opinions are the only valid ones.

Regards,
John

I'm talking about complete and utter devaluation of one's input. Disagreeing with something is one thing, but to basically say 'you're completely wrong and I am right' is a totally different kettle of fish. A quote from Matilda springs to mind right about now.

This - perfect sum up of what I'm getting at. And also let's not forget baiting responses as well that certain members on here have done...
