However, this isn't applicable to his situation because 1) his degree has already been conferred; and 2) it's from a US university. He's also under the assumption that a Delta can be used to qualify him for a position in lieu of an MA in ESL with online coursework, and that the SACM will authenticate a Delta as if it were a degree.

If he does another MA then this will be an option. Many universities accept Delta modules so this is a simple fact and nothing 'wrong'. I also don't know if you are talking about soheeb or the OP.

Many teachers do 2-3 MA degrees as they upgrade their quals, anyway. US teachers study degrees from the UK and some Brits do degrees in Oz.

I was referring specifically to soheeb16's situation. He already has an MA in TESOL from a US university, but it included online coursework. Although he can complete the Delta in his home state of NY (it's offered in just two states), I doubt he'll then want to head to the UK to pursue yet another TEFL-related MA. Not to mention, he has a wife and baby to support.

Hi
couldn't find specific answers so does anyone know if

1. The university of goldsmith online English BA degree is acceptable for Saudi? I read the other thread on online degrees and got impression if the institution is prestigious (which goldsmiths is for English), that the cert will be acceptable.

An employer might find your online degree to be valuable, and may think that they would want somebody who possesses your online degree from the University of Goldsmith. However the SACM will reject it and your employment visa will be rejected simply because your degree is online, unless of course you have another degree somewhere that is done at a brick and morter school. Given the picture that you're painting and the position that you appear to be in, I'll tell you right now it is better not to play this game with the Saudis or rely on the Saudis for employment, forget about it.

2. Whether I should get a Phd or BA? I was told with a PhD it's easier to get a uni position but I also read that with 3 yr experience that MA is fine too? I've also been told doing a BA would be a step backwards as I have or will have MA soon.

Many Saudi ESL jobs require a BA in English, They might accept a Master's in English, you would have to look at the job posting. For some jobs in a lot of countries, a BA in Education or a BA in English appears to be in many cases more desirable than a MA in English or Education. Is it worth it to go back and get a BA in English or Education? Hell no! There are too many other opportunities besides teaching in Saudi Arabia to warrant going back and getting another Bachelor's in English or Education.

A Master's in Education, if done right, will get you a license to teach in your home country. Also a Masters with a license will get you teaching positions at International schools.............. If I was going back to get a Bachelor's again it would be in Computer Science, or something like Nursing,............... something else that is really valuable, certainly not English or Education. Who cares what these other people have, or what the Saudi's require. There are vastly better jobs than teaching in Saudi Arabia if the right degree is had.

My reason for doing BA is because I see lots of jobs in saudi asking for it. And I feel it's something that I can do whilst part time working unlike a PhD

Whatever it is exactly that you mean there, it's not worth it! In fact after you have gotten your BA you will see what a crap shoot Saudi Arabia is, and realize that perhaps you should have never gone there in the first place. In the long run there is a very substantial chance you would have made a lot more money doing something else rather than messing with the Saudi corruption and abuse of employees. You realize by now, I hope, that the Saudi's can do whatever they want with you as an employee, for any reason.

There are now Job postings providing less pay to South Africans, who are considered Native English Speakers, than say native speakers from the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand. Why? Many South Africans probably apply out of desperation, and they (The Saudis) are now catching on to the fact that they can take advantage of them. After the upheaval in the Middle East they already started taking advantage of teachers from Syria and Egypt and from other Middle Eastern areas. The Arab teachers are desperate, as far as they (the Saudis) are concerned why not save money? Ramadan Kareem My Brother

I couldn't agree more with this.

Plus South Africa is basically the next closest English speaking country after the UK/Ireland. Direct flights from Johannesburg to Jeddah makes it even easier (despite the fact the UK has at least 4 routes to KSA, 6 during Hajj). Even their visa costs are cheaper!

Nomad Soul, regarding my situation: Yes I understand all of that. I just didn't know if DELTA was something that could count as a qualification sent to SACM, but I get it now. My BA is already clear as they gave me the distance learning form. As for my MA, it shouldn't be an issue. I did complete it on campus after all and they gave me a letter for that.
