I was wondering if any of you are planning on attending the Mextesol conference in October? And if you are, have you been to one previously, was it worth it? The last conference I went to was the British Council in DF in 2001 or 2002. I found it to be quite useful if only for a much needed 'shot in the arm', a refresher of what's gong on in the ESL world ( the outside world for that matter, considering where I live). And staying at the Oxford was a definite highlite. Morelia is always fun to visit. Now if the University will cover maybe the transportation costs I'm in for sure. |

Costa,
I won't be going because (to refer to another post) I'll be rather busy in October this year . But I've been before, in Monterrey in 2002 and Puebla in 2001. The Monterrey one was good, but a bit disorganized--especially in comparison with the British Council's show. But Puebla as EXCELLENT. I'm disappointed to miss it this year--especially since my husband is currently studying in Morelia, and David Nunan is one of the Keynote speakers.
By the way the Best of British ELT 2005 dates have just come out February 11th and 12th, and the cost is a whopping $1500!!! (it does include two buffet lunches) MEXTESOL is cheaper and longer 3 1/2 days, but frankly too long, but Sunday morning you can't absorb much more information. The Oaxaca MEXTESOL chapter is dreaming of hosting the national convention soon, I probably won't be able to go for a couple of years, unless it is in Oaxaca.
Oh also by the way, here at my campus, we get the time off with pay to attend either conference and if enough teachers are going we get a university vehicle to take us there, just so you can tell your vice-rector, if you decide to attend . |
