I've never heard of it, but the website looks pretty good and the offer (albeit 7 years old) looks okay.
I see you have a CELTA. You can really use that to get yourself to a better position, especially if you get some experience under your belt and have a decent understanding of Japanese. I'm guessing since you got certified you're looking to do this for a while?
Are your hours the same as the job listing I posted? 36.5 hours sounds good. I would e-mail and check about what they expect a normal day to be like. I would also ask about health insurance, time off, and transportation clarification. |

It's 25 teaching hours. I'll be making 240k per month and get 5 weeks of vacation (the advertised position was for 230k-250k and I asked for 240k during the interview). It may not be the greatest offer, but I'm looking for a quick way into Japan and this position begins next month. Also, I don't yet speak Japanese and only have 1 year of experience, so I figure I can't be too picky. I've just received the contract per e-mail and am asking some questions before signing, e.g., shouldn't the vacation be explicitly stated in the contract? |

I'm sure that most people here can say that they have had something illegal in their contract before, even if it was very small.
The five weeks is probably 1 for Obon, 1 for Golden Week, one or two for new years, and then various holidays. It might even include the 10 days vacation you are guaranteed after 6 months of employments. This is one of the places they would most likely try to cheat you on. You are allowed 10 days in addition to set vacation days by the government and the company. They are not a part of those days. Although, there is some grey area because 5 of those days can be set by the company, but it is supposed to be agreed upon.
You could ask about vacation and risk the possibility of making them mad when you find out they have problems with the 10 days (they might not), or you can not do anything and possibly run into a problem when you try to take your vacation.
They also can't keep money from you for quitting before your contract is over, although they obviously don't have to pay you the rest of your contract. Pretty much if anything seems a bit off it probably is.
And so I'm guessing that the time you're supposed to be at school is 36.5 hours so 11.5 office hours to prepare, clean, and eat. That sounds good.

36.5? If I count up the hours from that old ad, it's 30.5, but I've been told I won't have hours outside of teaching except for a few meetings and events throughout the year.
And yes, they explained the vacation to me. I have one or two weeks to freely allocate if I don't teach during the christmas break; otherwise, I only have one week to allocate. |

| Also, they still haven't outlined the holidays in the contract, but they have sent me a schedule for the year which shows the allocation of the holidays (including the 5 days that they are free to allocate). If it's the Japanese law that I get 10 days holiday in addition to public holidays, there shouldn't be a problem. |
