Dear Dedicated,
Well, unless that celebrity happens to agree entirely with MY idea of how the world should be changed, of course.
In that case, I'm all for it, and I don't give one whit what she'he is famous for.
E.G. Paul Newman: YES - Charlton Heston: NO
Well, there goes my "voice of reason" compliment.
Regards,
John |

Granted that Ms Swift is a fine singer. Call ne crazy. but having someone who's famous for her singing voice be "a powerful leader with the ability to change the world" is a situation that makes me a tad uncomfortable. |
What you're quoting relates to the rapidly changing business models of music sales/distribution and how she has "earn[ed] a reputation as an advocate for artists, songwriters and producers," by challenging Spotify, first, and then Apple. |

And then, there's good old Ted Nugent - also a very vocal spokesperson for political/social causes.

Why should anyone give a monkey's bazoomba about some singer of popular songs and her ability to use English ?
Dumbing down continues as we career into Armageddon. |
This is not a Hello-esque news article about a pop singer called Taylor Swift, but how a reputable organisation; namely The Princeton Review, was criticising someone in the public eye (some of whose videos have hits of almost a billion (and thus followed by many people)) for supposed grammar mistakes, when said organisation was actually mistaken. It's irrelevant that we might not care who the celebrity is (however, many of our students will be interested in her). Are we, as English teachers, not interested in this given our interest in language usage and grammar? Or are we just going to say who is Taylor Swift, I don't care about her and try to be sarcastic? Why post on a thread you don't care about? If you're not interested, don't post, especially on a thread I started almost 4 months ago.
Oh, the irony after your previous comment! |
