Wait, so you signed the contract and applied for a business visa without receiving an iqama or did they just say "Well, it's not here and we need you now, can you come?"

His employer does not have a work permit so he brought him in with a Business Visa. Sharp practice. It could end badly.

Yeah. Right I just got a phone call that my documents are being denied by the cultural mission for missing documents even though they are everything requested. I'm frankly a little afraid that it's going to wind up with me being "invited" to go on a business visa.

Was the call from the SACM in the US? Exactly which documents did you submit?

EDIT for new post:

The call was from the visa agency NOT the SACM. They merely relayed what the "note" given from them was.

The problem was that the degree attestation was apparently incomplete. The agency told me that it was missing until I corrected them that it was included and completed. The university registrar crossed out the box of online classes, wrote a note to effect of "All classes were conducted on-site," stamped and signed it. My university is already registered with the National Student Clearing House so that shouldn't be the issue.

My guess is that they don't like that it's an unrelated degree? Sadly, I can't say I didn't see this coming, but reading other posters saying they had no problems and the agency and company themselves both assuring me that there should be no issue lulled into some security.

To answer your question nomad: I submitted my degree and TEFL notarized, the distance learning form, sealed transcripts, and (after forgetting it the first round), the degreeverify confirmation.

Will keep people posted.

Did you include a signed authorization letter granting permission for the SACM to obtain info about your academic record from your university? See #7 of the authentication application.

Since you're adamant you submitted all the required documentation, then the problem might be with your TEFL cert --- that the SACM is missing the course provider's info in order to verify the cert. That was a major concern of yours since you'd mentioned that you'd completed it online. The Saudi government doesn't like online anything.

As for a business visit visa, it's up to the company to decide whether to have one issued to you. That would require both a different process and written agreement as you wouldn't be considered an employee. That said, if you can hang in there, maybe you should just wait until your MA in Teaching diploma and transcript are released in about a month from overseas and use it to qualify for an employment visa.

Can't get a sim card, health insurance, bank account or 3g modem, again due to not having a work permit

Giant stack of bills sitting in my suitcase with no way to transfer out of the country

English program is a joke and the teaching hours have already gone up and we're all running from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, some days there is no lunch because of extra classes

It's an absolute shit show, but hey, I've already made 3,000 USD...

You stated that you'd completed the requirements toward an employment/work visa, so apparently you're just waiting for your iqama. Legally, the employer has up to 90 days to obtain your residency/work permit --- before your employment visa expires. However, that process depends on how quickly your employer submits your info to the Ministry of Interior and how busy the immigrations office is. So if you haven't yet completed your in-country lab tests, then nothing's been done so far.

It takes quite a bit longer than a month for all my stuff to be approved from Spain. It also has to be validated by another authority in the US and I'm not sure if this woulda still require me to have my docs notarized and such before submitting to SACM. Plus it costs yet more money that I don't quite have to do.

In any case, I told the recruiting company that my TEFL was online and both the company and the agency assured it was fine. They actually told me submitting my TEFL cert "won't hurt but it is not necessary to include!" Of course, I know these things should be taken with a grain of salt but that's where it's at.

I recall NatureGirl mentioning the hassle she went through in getting her diploma and records from Spain. Anyway, this is why it's best to wait until you have your validated diploma and transcript in hand before applying for a position in the Gulf.
