Hi everyone,
I'm planning to come to Vietnam in January for a bit of travel and then settle down with some teaching work. Having done a lot of reading, I have Hanoi in mind. I just want to make sure I've understood the process for finding teaching work and that I'm not forgetting anything important.
As I am a CELTA qualified native speaker with ten years experience but no degree, I should be able to get a work permit by supplying the work experience letter right? Is it five years or seven years nowadays? Is this letter a homemade thing? Or do people really go to all the trouble of getting each of their past employers to confirm the dates worked etc?
Is the CELTA certificate, working experience documents and criminal record check everything I would need to bring in advance? Any other general tips and advice would be greatly appreciated!

You need a bachelor degree to get a work permit. |

Pretty much. Many people with degrees and Celta equivs don't have work permits however.
Much as I learned very little at university and NOTHING relevant to teaching English I'm glad I did it because so many doors are closed without it.
Technically you can apply for a work permit without a degree if you can prove 5 years experience - BUT - I'm sure a lot of employers would not want the extra bother. They'd just move on to someone who had all the usual boxes ticked [checked in NAmE] |
