Hello,

I wanted to start a topic and hopefully current or former TVTC teachers can fill me in on some details.

I worked for Al Wajh for a year and my contract ended in August. I am currently completing my CELTA and we agreed that I will come back to possibly replace a teacher sometime in November.

However, our college has had some problems with attendance, no computer lab and our original building has no power. Attendance has been terrible and most students go home around noon.

They may not have the students or budget to bring me back after completing my CELTA. My colleagues and management are great people and I feel bad about the lack of motivation from students. I was shocked to hear that 80 show up for the first three classes and the campus is deserted by noon. We have a great time of experienced and CELTA certified teachers.

Is this common at all TVTC's? I am under the impression that my company may pull out the first chance it gets. I was under the impression that companies have to stay for three years at the location.

I am assuming that the King is pouring all of this money into the program and it would be a shame that after eighteen months or two years, that there will be an empty campus.

Are all TVTC's like this? (Companies losing money, low attendance scores, truancy, etc?)

I always thought it was just my college because we are located in a small town in a remote area.

They are all very similar, I think. Demotivated students, crazy start up problems as many colleges are very new, lots of admin cock ups, and poor attendance for most classes.. Many students just walk off campus and go home whenever they feel like it.

The pay is usually better than the PYP jobs at universities as a lot of the foreign consortiums from the UK/US are attempting to attract decent teachers.. However, some providers are already pulling out after just a few years.

The rooms must be conspicuous with administrators checking in to them occasionally or else I'm surprised the students show up in the mornings as well.

In my experience with situations like currentaffairs are describing, it can be really difficult to not feel like a joke.

The PYPs at Universities at least have students who attend, most of the time.
