717 people were killed in another stampede at the same site where they have had repeated stampedes in the past. Maybe it's time for the Saudis to admit that they need to forego that little activity.

Nice to see that Africans get the blame, rather than poor organization by the Saudis.

I'm sure more details will come out as time goes on.

When I was in Saudi Arabia, I had the privilege to try the Labor Bureau there. You get up in the morning (5:00), take a (for most people) long taxi trip and then wait for hours. When they open the doors there is usually somewhat of a stampede (seriously) due to idiots (who they are I will keep to myself) who feel entitled to come later than everyone else and make it in anyway. They only take 30 applicants per day, and there is hundreds who show up at the Bureau everyday. When they opened up I was caught in a stampede of people trying to get through a small opening in a gate. I was caught in the gate and being heavily pushed, I was able to finally eject myself from the gate. Lots of Luck.
