|
|
Hi there,
I'm currently on my wife's visa but I've been offered a job at a language center in Abu Dhabi. The language center doesn't offer a work visa as the job is part-time.
They've told me that I could pay for one through them at a cost of around 5000 AED. This is for a 2 year labour card and medical insurance.
Unfortunately my wife's employer has found out about this job offer and is planning to cancel my sponsorship if I take the job. They are saying that it's illegal for a man to work in Abu Dhabi on his wife's visa, which I think is true from what I've read online.
My impression is that a fair few husbands are working part-time and full-time on their wifes visas, and are maybe keeping it quiet.
I don't particularly want to pay 5000 AED for a labour card for a part-time job. But as I'm an inexperienced teacher, I am unlikely to receive a decent contract in the UAE.
If anyone has any advice or views on this matter, then I would be grateful.
Regards

Advice?
You either:
a) Pay the 5000 AED for a proper employment visa, or
b) Give a pass on offers of part-time employment, or
c) Work under the radar and risk getting caught and booted out of the country for breaking the law.
No one can make this decision for you, but a is obviously the best option if you're chomping at the bit for work. |

I'm not an expert, but it might be an issue of having double insurance coverage. Consider which insurance coverage is more important to you and if the salary is enough. If you break even, and want to get the UAE experience on your CV, you might want to consider the position.
If your wife no longer sponsors you, would she get a cut in her housing? |

Hi,
No, the strange thing is that I will still receive certain benefits, such as flights and accommodation from my wife's visa.
As I need the experience I will have to pay for the visa. I've been quoted around 3000 for the 2 year visa, and 4000 for a years basic medical insurance.
My current medical insurance is very good and comes with international cover also. It would be a shame to lose it but what can you do.
