I need to get a Z-visa back from my home country - Canada.
But I'm living in Korea right now.
Contract starts on March 5th, I arrive in China on March 1st.
I only have time for one week in January or two weeks in February to go back to Canada.
Which option is better?
One week in January seems to short but because of my current work contract, I MUST go back to Korea before going to China so this option is better in that regard. (Canada for 1 week -- a month and a half in Korea -- off to China).
February is cutting it close since the contract starts in March and again, I must go back to Korea before going to China so I basically have 2 weeks in Canada, 1 week back in Korea, and then off to China.
Thanks for any advice. |

| Check the Chinese New Year / Spring Festival dates. You may find the embassy is closed for 1 to 2 weeks for that holiday in February meaning January is not just the best option, but the *only* option. |

| @Listerine - I am confused. After getting the Z visa in Canada do I or my employer have to do something at an embassy in China before i arrive in China? |

He means the Chinese Consulate in Canada might be closed for 1-2 weeks in February so you won't be able to go in and apply for the Z-Visa during that time. |

Ahhhhhh I see. Thank you both for that, I completely forgot about that!
But now that i think about it I think I can't even get my visa through the consulate, I have to do it through some sort of service? I remember reading on the website that the consulate no longer does visas directly for individuals and you can do it through tourist agencies (even for z-visas... all visas, if I remember correctly). Rushing into a meeting now so I cant check but if anyone can give me advice while I'm gone, please do!
I'll be going to Vancouver to do all this.
(I can be completely misremembering this and maybe this is for the consulate in Seoul, Korea.) |

| If you trust the postal system then see if you can apply through a visa agent. Unless of course you want to go to Vancouver. |

I don't trust the postal service with my passport so I'll be going to Vancouver.
And I just checked and I did confuse it with Seoul's consulate. I can get the visa directly from the consulate in Vancouver and I don't have to go through an agent.
Is it relatively a quick process? Getting my work visa for Korea was hell. |

You don't get it from the consulate itself. They moved visa applications to a different facility down West Broadway. Just follow the Falon Gong protestors and you'll find it  I got my visa there, but it wasn't a Z |

What is the name of the facility? Is it this?

I found this on their website:
If you have obtained Chinese visas before and want to apply for a Chinese visa with a renewed foreign passport that does not contain any Chinese visa, you should present the photocopy of the previous passport's data page and the photo page if it is separate, as well as the previous Chinese visa page.
I think I gave up my passport to be destroyed when I got a new passport... I've been to China before on vacation (L visa) back in 2009-ish.
And when I was a kid.... maybe 7 years old, I went to visit family but that visa is long, long, long gone.
Since I don't have those old passports would they deny my application?
Now that I think about it, when I got my L visa back in 2009, I never gave them a photocopy of my past Chinese visas from when I was 7 years old simply because I forgot I even went to China back then/didn't have that passport anymore. So would it be ok not to have that? |

| That's the one. I don't think it's a huge deal but they tend to ask for more information from people of Chinese origin. |

Is it possible to mail it to my parents and have them do it? I can send my passport using a more secure delivery service.
I tried googling but couldn't find any information. |
