My girlfriend and I did that move after living in Chiang Mai for 9 months. We've been here for 2+ years now. VUS and other well-established (big) language centers and most/all international schools will 'help' you with your work permit, which involves laying out all the steps for you to do the legwork and pay the fees up front, then reimburse you for the cost ($300ish) after you get everything together for them, have them submit it, and get the final document. Some smaller companies farm out teachers to gov't schools; these may or may not care about your WP/visa status. As mentioned above, it's much less black and white, more muddled gray. Individual 'businesses' are around to help you procure 'essential' documents, but you pay for the convenience. I definitely miss Thai food and driving on the left, plus HCMC is a billion times crazier than relaxed CM, but just try to make the most of it and you'll be fine. |
