Hi Op,
Personally, I don't accept any offer that cannot tell me where I am living, send RECENT pictures of the actual apartment, and tell me the name of the school that will employ me. The school and apartment are major factors in whether or not i accept an offer. How much can you really consider if such major details are not provided for your consideration? We'll see when you get here just doesn't do it for me. If I were you, I would pass on this offer. Best of luck with whatever you decide though.

He said I'd be assigned to one school. I asked whether the free apartment (when available) was within walking distance of the school and he said yes. But, again, I can't ask for pictures of said apartment because "that depends on the school" and I haven't been placed yet. There's also the chance I may have to find my own place and they give an allowance of 2500, but from what I've read I'm going to have to supplement that figure to get something decent, so again it would be nice to know exactly what I'm getting into here.

I think I'm going to email them asking if it's possible to send pics of sample apartments just to get an idea...

In looking again at what you wrote another concern occurred to me. How can the recruiter give you assurances when he has stated that he doesn't know himself? He says that the apartment is within walking distance, but then cannot tell you which apartment it is or where it is. How would he know the length of commute time by foot in this circumstance? It seems to still be in the air as to whether you will get an apartment or an allowance so I wouldn't count on any promises about the apartments including whether you can walk to school from it. Sample apartment pics will just be a best case scenario so I personally wouldn't bother asking for them. Also, promises that you will be placed in one school can evaporate quickly once you are in country and this would be another concern that I would have. Sorry to be so sour on this offer, op. I should state that I have seen these kinds of offers before from recruiters and it is one of the reasons that I don't deal with recruiters when looking for jobs. I should note, however, that I know two FT that have accepted these types of contracts that are happy with their positions. There are also many stories of unhappy teachers who have accepted these types of offers.

That's what my gut is saying but I really needed a 2nd opinion as I was worried I'm "being too picky." I'm definitely gonna pass on this one. Thanks!
