The full-time CELTA is four weeks, yes.
The YL extension is two weeks full time.
What did you want to ask? |

Well, geez, Hod! This thread certainly shifted ground since I last visited yesterday! What was an enjoyable, lively difference of opinion turned into . . . this. Darn. I had been enjoying the disagreement, and the different opinions of various contributors until the shift to the personal. |
Well, yes, sorry. I'm interested in doing such a course, which is why I started the thread. I only found out about the Trinity TYLEC through this board, which is a positive.
As I say, sorry, but I was irritated by somebody dismissing CELTA YL outright and saying only a directly-relevant degree and teaching training would suffice. This was, in my view and that of two other posters, unhelpful and unrealistic.
There's clearly a place for TYLEC and the soon to expire CELTA YL, and like you I would like to hear from anyone who's done either. |

Have any of you guys actually taken this course? I wonder how it compares to full-time f2f CELTA... |
Yes I took it (CELTYL), but part time over a couple of months. If you still worked at a BC centre with kids, Hod you'd probably end up being strongly advised/forced to do it, but at a reduced rate. I found it very useful in taking me from basically knowing nothing at all about teaching kids and being a fairly useless teacher to being able to plan a decent YL lesson. As someone mentioned it's a bit thin on the classroom management/psychology stuff, which suited me fine, but might bother others. |

That's good enough for me. Thanks.
Just to avoid confusion, the three (?) courses are:
CELTYL - This course no longer exists.
CELTA YL extension - This two-week full-time course will be phased out at the end of 2016
TYLEC - This is three weeks full time. |
